A feature documentary of the epic Leadville Trail 100 "Race Across the Sky" Mountain Bike Race. Filmed over a 12-hour period, with more than 14,000 vertical feet of climbing over 100 miles of rugged alpine terrain. It vividly illustrated the gritty resolve of some 1,000 elite riders as they faced extreme weather changes—from hail and heat to rain and snow—injury, injury, fatigue and mechanical failure. All at two miles above sea level.
Challenges in filming this 100-mile race included trekking up mountain with a full complement of camera equipment, support and all supplies needed for the duration of the race. Sticks & Stones also coped with the unpredictable weather at that altitude, just like the racers.
From a post on Sugarloaf Mountain for the Leadville 100 Mountain Bike Race. Filmed against the backdrop of former mining town Leadville, CO, 1,228 cyclists start the grueling 100-mile race. Multi-operator shoot with Panasonic HDX 900.
